Primary Education Project, Pakistan

Partner: Primary Education Project, Diocese of Hyderabad, Church of Pakistan
Place: Hyderabad, Pakistan

The Diocese of Hyderabad has worked for many years in the field of education and its institutions including hostels have good reputation. In 2002 the diocese piloted its "Village LEAP Project", which seeks to work with the Government's declared policy of improving the enrolment rate of primary age Children, especially for girls, and increasing the literacy rate in the Rural Sindh province of Pakistan.

The project is working in 5 main areas of rural Sindh Hyderabad / South Sindh , Tando Allahyar, Mirpurkhas, Khawja Goth and Khipro. In each of these areas, a middle/high school has been established which in addition to providing quality education, is a training centre for village teachers. The project is opening village schools around each of these centres, creating partnership agreements with the local marginalized communities. The communities build a hut for the school, recommend a teacher for training and appoint a school management committee to oversee the development of the school.

The project is also involved with trainings and advocacy work in these areas.
