Chad Literacy programme

Project: Chad Literacy programme
Place: Tchad, Afrique subsaharien

With the help of the organisation SIL, 5 Chadian language organisations are keen to develop their local community, mainly through helping people to learn to read and write.

Through the work of a national coordinator, these organisations are training teams of people who are teaching their relatives in their villages to read and write in their own languages. The monitoring staff as well as the writing tutors are also being trained up. Christians are much more involved in this project than others since their objective is to read and write down the Bible in their own language.

Please pray

  • Pray for the work of translation to go on in 3 of the 5 projects. 2 projects already have either the New Testament or the entire Bible.
  • Pray for people in the villages to be more committed to this initiative. Everywhere they are very slow in coming forward since they think that ‘the project’ ought to pay everyone and provide for them.
  • Pray for the 5 coordinators who have taken on the task of working for their community to have their strength, wisdom and love renewed.

The training takes place between November and December each year. At the same time, awareness is raised among the wider community and they are mobilised to sign up for the classes.
The classes begin in January and finish at the end of April to mid May when the rains start falling.
